This is a challenging course designed for students who want to follow a career path in Musical Theatre. Emphasis will be given in the first term to preparation for entry to conservatoire/drama schools. Performance projects are the underlying foundation of the course. Students will also undertake a rigorous practical research and academic exploration, which will produce work within the scholarly conventions appropriate to an undergraduate level of study.

What you need to know
How will I study?

Learners studying for Edexcel BTEC Higher Nationals in Performing Arts will be expected to develop the following skills during the programme of study: • synthesis of a range of concepts, knowledge and skills relating to the performing arts • application of complex theories to practical realistic work situations in the performing arts • independence of approach to study and the generation of performing arts evidence • ability to engage with complex and/or unpredictable situations in performing arts contexts • ability to take responsibility to manage and direct their own and others activities • insight and judgement in relation to the margins and consequences of error • research and investigative skills • being responsive to change and the ability to multi-task • ability to innovate and work in a creative way • flexibility, knowledge and motivation in working in the performing arts.
How will I be taught?

As a trainee professional member you will produce three to four shows that includes a children’s theatre, naturalism, physical theatre and experimental theatre. Performance projects are the underlying foundation of the course. Students will work within a schedule that emulates that of a professional company.
How will I be assessed?

Modules include: Developing Acting Skills, Creative Arts Professional Practice & Theatre Business, Naturalistic Acting,Devising Performance, Alternative Approaches to Acting, Creative Arts Research Skills.
