The Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care (EYE) is a course designed for people who want to work in a range of early years settings and services with children from birth to 7 years (and their families). This qualification gives students the understanding and practical skills to be able to meet the individual needs of the child in a supporting role.
About this course
Upon achievement of this qualification, learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors, such as:
• Nursery assistant
• Classroom assistant
• Pre-school assistant
You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A*-D including English and Maths grades 9-3 (formerly A*-D) Either English or Maths GCSE need to be a minimum of a '4' or 'C'. Alternatively successful completion of a relevant Level 1 qualification and have achieved a Level 2 Functional Skill in English and Maths will also be acceptable entry requirements.
CACHE
On successful completion of this course, you could progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Care and Education (EYE ) course, if you have obtained your GCSE English and Maths at a C, and/or a Level 2 in F/S's. Progression will also depend on a tutor reference, and a clear DBS.

Course programme
In class you will be working on the theory behind topics such as Health & Safety, Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding, Play and Development. You will also be required to complete observations on the children in your placements and unit assignments.
You will be required to also study for your GCSE in Maths/English and/or L2 Maths/English F/S’s alongside your childcare course in order to give you the best chance to progress to the level 3 if appropriate.
You will be attending 2 work placements in a variety of settings across the early year’s age range and will be expected to complete a minimum of 250 hours in order to pass the requirements of the course. (2 x days a week placment)
You will be taught in class by subject specialists and there will also be speaker’s from outside agencies who will be invited into the class to discuss various aspects of early years care and education in order to enhance your knowledge so that you will be able to complete your assignments to the best of your ability.
