Details

A full day course providing focussed training on specific relevant areas to the Nebosh examination NGC paper 1 the Managment of Health & Safety.

The course focuses on the typical areas to be found in the Nebosh, Management of Health & Safety at Work paper 1. We also will cover examination technique as well as covering past examination papers and enlighten delegates understanding of the use of Action Verbs.

The course will cover the salient points in the following areas:-

1) The foundations of Health & Safety at work including definitions of Health & Safety, the origins and workings of the law, understanding legal terms like negligence, the courts system, differences in law, levels of Statutory duty, Regulations and ACOPS, the relevant information in Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, powers of inspectors, management model HSG 65 POPIMAR, the need for insurance and the iceberg theory.

2) Health & Safety policies, including the management model HSG 65 POPIMAR, difining and understanding the key functions of statement of intents, organisation, arrangements,

3) Organising for Health & Safety, useful external agencies, contractor selection Safety Rules and induction, The Safety Representatives and Safety Committee Regulations 1977, Safety committee effectiveness.

4) Culture and its definition, safety statistics, the 6’c for a successful work culture, definitions of competence, attitude motivation and perception, violations, communications, training needs analysis.

5) Risk Assessment, including the 5 steps to Risk Assessment, definitions of hazards and risks, understanding the meaning of suitable and sufficient, factors to consider when appointing a risk assessment team, controlling hazards and the hierarchy of measures and the development of safe systems of work and method statements, permits to work, emergency procedures, safety signs

6) Monitoring Review & Audit, reactive and active monitoring, audit criteria, measuring safety performance, planning inspections.

7) Accident Investigation and Review

4) The reporting of injuries, dangerous diseases and dangerous ocurances, the definitions and types of major injuries and dangerous ocurances, the domino effect, action to be taken following an accident

For examination techniques, we will explore the use of planning for success in terms of:-

1) Time management

2) Reading and understanding questions

3) Structuring your approach to answering the questions

The one day course will follow an interactive element using slide shows, the trainers and delegates experience to engage and reinforce this information. A Free booklet is provided with all relevant information to record and use as reference material during your revision.

Examination technique will incorporate the use of past examination papers under “exam” conditions. Delegates will be asked to complete questions and then a review of answers will take place, with analysis of where candidates may have gone wrong in interpreting the question wrongly.

Action Verbs will be explored and given a simplistic definition so that delegates can be more aware of how to answer questions during the examination.
