Brief Description of the Course:

This is an entry level course for adults and young people who are interested in working with horses and in the maintenance of the countryside. It is suitable for students with moderate learning difficulties and / or disabilities. The award is offered at Entry Levels 2 and 3. It will provide students with the basic practical skills and underpinning knowledge to access employment or progress to further training. It will also help develop common, social and interpersonal skills and widen life experiences through integration into College life.

Entry Criteria:

Students need to be over 16 and have a genuine interest in the practical aspects of the course. No previous qualifications are required but students must have some knowledge of horses and previous contact with them. The College provides support for those who have learning difficulties and disabilities.

Applicants please note! This course does not include a horse riding module. Students will neither be required nor permitted to ride any horse as part of their studies.

It may be possible to find work in one of the vocational areas studied.

Progression:

On completion of this course it may be possible for students to progress onto a Level 1 course or into work.

Special Requirements:

1 Specialist Clothing and Equipment: approved riding hat (standard PAS 015, BSEN 1384 and Kite marked), gloves, College sweatshirt, College overalls, suitable work boots* and waterproofs.

2 Minimum Age: 16 Years Old
