Required subjects
Entry criteria for admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Honours: 
a diploma in nursing from Nanyang Polytechnic or Ngee Ann Polytechnic; or an approved institution; OR
nursing overseas qualification from an approved Higher Education Institution (equivalent to 120 Level 5 credits);
current registration with the Singapore Nursing Board.

King’s College London will make the final decisions for admission to the course. Applicants will normally be expected to have a grade point average (GPA) of ≥2.7 as a benchmark for admission.  In the case of an applicant without a GPA ≥2.7, King’s may evaluate, on a case by case basis, other academic achievements and employer’s recommendation presented by the applicant.

Language requirements:

‘O’ level English or English, as detailed in King’s entry requirements
an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6 in each band/skill or equivalent score in another recognised test if they obtained their qualification from countries where English is not the standard medium of instruction and/or their first language.

We reserve the right reject an applicant who does not meet King’s entry criteria.

Course programme

Course detail Description

The course aims to enable nurses to transform bedside care by developing critical, analytical and evidence-based practice skills to lead improvements in health care quality, safety, access and value.

The course will provide you with knowledge and understanding of the following:
• Client assessment and clinical decision making in the context of a healthcare setting.

• Implementing, co-ordinating and evaluating a range of relevant therapeutic interventions.

• Research methods for healthcare.

• Promoting quality care by utilising and evaluating available evidence.

• Accountable practice in contemporay healthcare.

• National, organisational and local policies/guidelines shaping healthcare.

• Personal, professional, inter-professional, ethical and legal responsibilities.


Teaching
You can expect 50 contact hours for each module of the study course, and this will include both online and face to face lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops. Some areas of the course are designed to promote independent study supported by individual or group supervision. Contact hours for these modules will be adjusted accordingly.

Assessment
We will assess your progress and attainment on all modules you take on the course through a range of techniques, which includes essays, portfolios, dissertation projects and clinical examinations. For the research based module, there is an unseen written examinations.

The course is accredited by the Singapore Nursing board, as listed on their website.

Structure

Year 1 Courses are divided into modules. You will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.

Required modules:
You are required to take the following modules:
• Research Methods, Critical Appraisal & Statistics (15 credits)
• Legal & Ethical Issues for Professional Practice (15 credits)
• Teaching, Learning & Assessing for Nurses (15 credits)
• Advanced Assessment Skills & Clinical Decision Making (15 credits)
• Dissertation (30 credits)

Optional modules:
You are required to take a further 30 credits from the group of elective modules indicated below:

Group A
Palliative & End of Life Care Foundations (15 credits)

or

Fundamental Knowledge & Skills in Older Person’s Care (15 credits)

Group B
Leadership & Clinical Governance in Healthcare (15 credits)

or

Team-Based Health Care Practice & Decision Making (15 credits)
