NVQ2 In Childrens Care, Learning and Development

The Level 2 CCLD can be the first step on your career path. It comes with support and supervision. You can use it to work as:

- a nursery assistant
- a crèche worker – e.g. in a gym or a large retail store
- a special needs assistant

There are no formal entry qualifications but a reasonable standard of written English is required.

The applicant will also need to have been working (either paid or voluntary), for at least 12 hours a week, for a minimum of 6 months prior to starting the course, under supervision in face-to-face roles with children, young people (aged 0-16 years) and families.

A reference or confirmation of current employment with children will be required, as well as a CRB check.

You do not need GCSEs or A levels to achieve this award. There are no examination entry requirements.

The Level 2 CCLD is an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) for people who are working in childcare. Based on the National Occupational Standards, it proves that you have a level of skills to effectively do your job with some supervision and/or guidance.

The Level 2 CCLD is made up of 7 units - 6 mandatory units and 1 option unit. You must complete all 7 units to achieve the full certificate.

The mandatory units are:
CCLD 201 Contribute to positive relationships
CCLD 202 Help to keep children safe
CCLD 203 Support children’s development
CCLD 204 Use support to develop own practice in children’s care, learning and development
CCLD 205 Prepare and maintain environments to meet children’s needs
CCLD 206 Support children’s play and learning

Option units
You can choose the option unit that best suits your responsibilities/job role. The option units are:
CCLD 207 Contribute to the effectiveness of teams
CCLD 208 Support the development of babies and children under 3 years
CCLD 209 Support a child with disabilities or special educational needs
CCLD 210 Support children and young people’s play

When will I receive my results?

Results will be forwarded on as soon as they are received at the college. Please note that certificates, where awarded, can take up to 4 months to be received at the college before forwarding on to learners.
