Course Content:
You will study the following modules. Preparing for hairdressing services and maintaining work areas; Shampooing and conditioning hair; Assisting with perming and colouring processes; Assisting with perming, relaxing and colouring processes; Contributing to salon reception duties; Contributing to the development of effective working relationships; Supporting health and safety in the salon; Key skills in communication, IT and Maths.
If you want to start a career in hairdressing, this course is a good place to start. Your practical work will be assessed by observation, oral questioning, written assessments and a portfolio of evidence. You will need to provide your own salon uniform, black trousers and shoes (no open toes or sandals), and any equipment necessary to complete the course. Please be aware that you may be eligible to claim such expenses back through the Learner Support Fund. You will get the opportunity to discuss this at informal interview stage. Although you will spend some time the classroom, most of the course involves practical work in our salon. If you are 16-19, you will be on a curriculum 2000 programme so you will also have regular tutorials, key skills in communications, Maths, IT and an enrichment programme which will include visits. If you are not on curriculum 2000 you may still be able to get the extra qualifications.
Progression:
Successful students can progress to NVQ level 2 or may look for employment.
