The NVQ L3 in Playwork will enhance their personal growth and development and so enable them to undertake their role with greater confidence. Possible job roles after completion include: Playgroup Leader Out of School Club Supervisor Play Development Officer. Suitable for: The NVQ L3 in Playwork is designed for play-workers who supervise other members of staff within play-work environments. Candidates must be employed within a setting that allows them to obtain evidence reflecting their knowledge and experience. Learners must be aged 16+ with either a Level 2 Playwork qualification or significant experience in a playwork setting.

Course programme

The NVQ L3 in Playwork is a nationally recognised qualification for play-workers, awarded by City & Guilds. It is designed to enhance candidate’s personal growth and development and so allow them to undertake their role with greater confidence. Possible job roles after completion include:

  • Playgroup Leader
  • Out of School Club Supervisor
  • Play Development Officer

How does it work

Candidates must demonstrate competency in five mandatory units and four optional units. Mandatory units are:

  • Contribute to an organisational framework that reflects the needs and protects the rights of children and young people
  • Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children
  • Develop and promote positive relationships
  • Plan for and support self-directed play
  • Reflect on and develop practice

Optional units are:

  • Work with colleagues in a team
  • Respond to concerns about possible child abuse
  • Contribute to children´s health and wellbeing
  • Work with parents and careers
  • Administer playwork provision
  • Promote your organisation in the community
  • Contribute to evaluating, developing and promoting services
  • Organise and supervise travel
  • Manage a budget
  • Recruit, select, and keep colleagues
  • Provide learning opportunities for colleagues
  • Allocate and monitor the progress and quality of work in your area of responsibility
