Course content:
This one year full-time course is designed to provide a thorough training in the basic techniques of hairdressing. Successful students will be awarded the Foundation Certificate in Hairdressing. This is a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at Level 1 developed by the Hairdressing Training Board and the City and Guilds of London Institute based upon the practical requirements of the Hairdressing industry.

The course will cover the following areas:
The theory and practice of hairdressing including cutting programe, commercial styling, blow styling, assisting with permanent waving and hair colouring.
Mandatory Units
G20 Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
G3 Contribute to the development of effective working relationships
GH1 Shampoo and condition hair
GH3 Prepare for hair services and maintain work areas

Optional Units
GH2 Blow dry hair
GH4 Assist with hair colouring service

Entry requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements but students must be at least 16 years of age at the commencement of their course. There is no upper age limit. All applicants will have a personal interview at the College and a Head Teacher†s confidential report is required.

Progression opportunities:
On completing level 1 there is the opportunity to do NVQ level 2 in hairdressing either as an apprentice or on the full and part time programme.

There is a constant demand for qualified hairdressers who have enthusiasm, energy and ability.
