NVQ - Performing Engineering Operations Level 1 (Electrical/Electronic)(2010/2011)
Study Method:
The course will be based around practical workshop sessions in electrical and electronics.Students will also study mathematics and science topics.All students will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence to achieve this qualification.
In addition to an NVQ at level 1 student will also progress toward key skills in application of number,IT and Communications.
Duration :One year Full Time (36 weeks attendance Sept to June)
Who the Course is For:
Candidates who intend to start on a career in Electrical or Electronic work either in production, installation or maintenance. Approx Cost - 1037 + 30 College Reg. Please enq for concessions.
Assessment:
Assessment of the skills attained during the course will be short practical electrical/electronic assemblies which are assessed by the tutor. Tutor marked short written tests will be used to provide evidence of electrical/electronic basic theory required by the awarding body.Student produced portfolios will be assessed by the college and City and Guilds.
Course Leads To:
National Vocational Qualification Level 1 in Performing Engineering Operations (City & Guilds 2251 Certificate)
Successful candidates may progress to a specialist course in Electrical Installation or Electronic Servicing (Progression Award)

The course consists of NVQ units of assessment which assess the competence of a candidate over a wide range of activities.There will be a number of practical activities in electrical installation and electronics production as well as repair and maintenance procedures. There will be a high emphasis on Health and Safety and correct working methods.The Unit titles are:
1 Working safely in an engineering environment.
2 Developing yourself and working with other people on engineering activities.
3 Wiring electrical circuits.
4 Assembling electronic components.
5 Carrying out routine servicing of electrical/electronic components and systems.
