Progression Learners who have completed this qualification can progress onto Level 3 qualifications such as the Level 3 NVQ in Spectator Safety, the Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Award in Security Key holding and Alarm Response, as well as general management qualifications, such as the Level 3 NVQ in Management or the Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Award/Certificate in Management. Suitable for: Qualification summary The Level 2 NVQ in Providing Security Services recognises the skills, knowledge and understanding of people working in the security industry, and allows them to gain a qualification in the workplace which relates to their job area and which promotes good working practice. It is aimed at the security industry in general, but there are also specific pathways: static and patrol guarding; events security; door supervision; retail security; and CCTV operation

There is no prescribed recommended prior knowledge, attainment or experience needed, however it is recommended that potential candidates are assessed on entry for numeracy, literacy, communication and sector understanding skills. The initial assessment will also consider previous qualifications and practical experience. Candidates must be employed within the industry.

Course description

To achieve this qualification you need to complete a total of eight units. This comprises five mandatory units,one compulsory unit and two optional units. You and your assessor will undertake a skills scan to establish which areas of the standards best suit your job role. This will ensure that your choice of optional units accurately reflects your areas of competence within a security services environment.

There are 6 pathways to this qualification. The Award certificate has the following qualification title:

Level 2 in Providing Security Services (Static and Patrol Guarding)

Optional units, two from those below:

  • Control entry to and exit from premises
  • Carry out searches of vehicle for unauthorised items
  • Monitor areas using CCTV systems

The compulsory unit:

  • Maintain the security of property and premises through observation

Level 2 in Providing Security Services (Events Security)

Optional units, two from those below:

  • Carry out searches of vehicles for unauthorised items
  • Arrest people suspected of committing an offence
  • Deal with disorderly and aggressive behaviour

And a compulsory unit:

  • Carry out searches of people and their property for unauthorised items

Level 2 in Providing Security Services (Door Supervision)
Optional unites, two of the units below:

  • Carry out searches of people and their property for unauthorised items
  • Arrest people suspected of committing an offence
  • Deal with disorderly and aggressive behaviour

And a compulsory unity:

  • Provide security at licenses venues

  • 007 Control entry to and exit from premises

Level 2 in Providing Security Services (CCTV Operation)
Optional units, two of those below:

  • Maintain CCTV video tape libraries and preserve potential evidence
  • Maintain the operational performance of CCTV systems

And a compulsory unit:

  • Monitor areas using CCTV systems

Assessment method

Assessment will be carried out by a qualified NVQ assessor which will include; observation, work products, witness testimony, candidate reports, professional discussion, questions and accreditation of prior learning if authentic and current..
