The olive grower is a farmer who deals with planting and managing olive tree crops for the olive harvest and the production of oil and other products, food and other products, derived from olives (for example in the cosmetics industry). Italian oil production is a world-class excellence, even if, recently, a severe production crisis in the sector and competition from countries where labor is less expensive are putting the sector at risk. An olive grower takes care of the olive trees, collects their fruits and subsequently produces oil and other products and places them on the market after bottling and packaging. Like all farmers, his figure can be divided into two distinct major profiles: self-employed owner of a small farm (in this case he is defined as a direct farmer or professional agricultural entrepreneur) and an employee of a company (in this case he is defined as a farm worker or daily farm worker). The direct farmer and the professional agricultural entrepreneur (described in the legislative decree 228 of 18 May 2001) are owners of a small company, which (even with their own family) lend at least 104 days of agricultural work per year by their own hand, that is one third of the company's total needs.
