Point of entry: September.
Attendance: 1 day a week for 76 weeks.
Course description: fully accredited, professional, masters level professional course in Oriental herbal medicine for TCM practitioners, including a certificate in pre-prepared herbs (patents) at the end of year one.
Subjects studied:
Year 1
Herbal Formulas and Strategies: This module introduces the study of individual herbs and formulas (including pre-prepared ‘patent’ medicines) across Oriental medical theory, and their application in specific disease conditions. The practical application of the theoretical aspects is explored through exposure to clinical practice.
Herbal Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy: This module introduces a range of key macro- and micro-nutrients and the processes of catabolism, as well as the relationship between diet and disease and the giving of dietary advice. It also introduces the structure, properties and functions of the main classes of secondary plant chemicals and their actions on the human body. Using the College Herbal Dispensary and the Bristol Herb Garden, this module also explores pharmacognosy and dispensing issues in clinical practice.
Year 2
Herbal Clinic: This module applies existing theoretical knowledge, reflective practice and practical skills acquired throughout the programme in the context of supervised clinical practice with patients. This module also develops an ability to synthesise theory and practice creatively in the analysis and solution of complex disease patterns in Chinese medicine.

- Postgraduate Diploma in Oriental Herbal Medicine (PGDip), awarded by the University of East London.
- Licentiate Diploma in Oriental Herbal Medicine (LicOHM).
- Eligibility for membership of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM).
