DESCRIPTION
This course has been developed for those who are working with children and infants. It will be of
particular interest to teachers, child minders, crèche assistants, playgroup personnel and anyone else
who has a responsibility for their welfare whilst in your care.
It is ideal for individuals who are responsible for children and infants, who wish to gain
a nationally accredited Level 2 Award.
This two-day course satisfi es the guidelines and criteria as laid down by the Early Years
Foundation Stage (EYFS) and OFSTED.
In order to obtain this qualifi cation, you must attend both days and complete the two units
of accreditation.
DURATION
A minimum of 12 hours makes up these two units consisting of theoretical and practical work.
SYLLABUS
A range of subjects is covered including:
• Responsibilities and reporting • Resuscitation • Fainting
• Assessment of the situation • Head injuries • Choking
• Dealing with an unresponsive casualty • Diabetes • Fractures
• Infantile convulsions • Foreign bodies • Meningitis
• Control of bleeding and shock • Anaphylaxis • Burns
• Eye injuries • Heat and cold • Asthma
• Sickle cell anaemia
CERTIFICATION
Assessment is ongoing by the instructor in respect of the student’s practical skills and there will be
multiple choice question paper to answer in respect of their knowledge.
A three year certifi cate will be issued subject to assessment.
NUMBERS
A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course.
A G E L I M I T
Students must be a minimum of 14 years of age and a certifi cate can be offered to all, subject to
assessment.
A student cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace for children and infants until they reach the
age of 16, and then it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that the student is suitable for that role.
The certifi cate will expire as dated on the certifi cate, irrespective of age.
