Program Purpose / Objectives
Preliminary Objectives for Activity. At the conclusion of this CME activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the difference between Sensitivity and Specificity when it comes to evidence based medicine
- Review the occurrence of chronic pain in America
- List some adverse effects of pain
- Describe the use of x-rays and imaging in pain
- Discuss rational pharmacotherapy in pain management
- Review ways to positively interact with difficult patients
- Appreciate the complexities of the physiology of pain
- Apply physiologic principles to the other lectures in the series
- Realize the significance of the pain experience in patients' lives
- Be familiar with the various pharmacological classes and treatments involved in the treatment of acute and chronic pain
- Apply knowledge of non-pharmacologic approaches to the treatment of pain
- Comprehend and apply the risk screening when considering the use of scheduled medications
- Build on the information presented in the lecture series to change practice behaviors when dealing with chronic pain patients
