The aim of this course is to provide a brief overview of the principles and philosophy of palliative care for people in hospital, or the acute care-setting. In addition to considering the palliative care needs of people with a range of long-term conditions, the provision of excellent palliative care will be linked to the reality of everyday clinical practice and the importance of getting the basics right. The course will also consider a broad spectrum of issues around supporting the physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs of the individual and those of the family.
