This course is for you if:
- You are an enthusiastic adult with good study skills or a student who wants to improve your grade.
- You are an Arts graduate wanting a science-based qualification through which to access physiotherapy or teacher training.
- You have had some experience of the AS/A2 biology before and would like to improve on your previous performance. This is the AS option, the full A level can be taken by enrolling for an extra night.

Fee Information: The College charges a range of fees, primarily Home and Overseas. Under 19s assessed as Home, do not pay the course fees, we only charge a 20 enrolment fee which is refunded if you complete the course. Home students over 19 undertaking their First Full Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSE A-C) or their First Full Level 3 (equivalent to BTEC National or 2 ALevels) will be charged 20 enrolment fee plus any examination fees. For Home students over 19 receiving certain state benefits, the 20 enrolment is charged and not refundable. In all other instances, you will be charged the Home-EU or Overseas Fee.
About the course:
Lectures are supported by practical laboratory work.
The course comprises of two parts:
1. The AS course consists of three assessment units:
Unit 1: Molecules and Cells
Unit 2: Exchange, Transport and Reproduction
Unit 3a: Energy and the environment which is assessed by an external test and
Unit 3b: which is an internally assessed practical T1 paper. This part will be externally moderated by EDEXCEL.
2. The A2 course covers 3 modules and will be covered between January and May
Unit 4: Respiration and Co-ordination and an option
Unit 5: Genetics, Evolution and Bio-diversity
Unit 6: Synoptic and Practical assessment.
You don' t necessarily have to take the full Advanced GCE qualification: you can still get a certificate for the AS.
Assessment:
The examination for the 3 AS Modules will take place in January - repeated in June.
The A2 course covers 3 modules and will be covered between January and May.
After the course:
You could gain entry to a variety of higher education courses including:
Physiotherapy
Teaching
Environmental Health with the addition of Chemistry you could gain access to a Biomedical Science course.
