Course Description
The BTEC National Award in Construction qualification is for students who wish to pursue careers in the technical side of the construction industry.

Course Structure
The course consists of six units: Four core units and a choice of two specialist units.

Core Units:
  • Health, Safety and Welfare
  • Construction and the Environment
  • Construction Science and Materials
  • Construction Technology and Design


Specialist Units:
  • Mathematics in Construction
  • Planning, Organisation and Control of Resources
  • Graphical Detailing
  • Measuring, Tendering and Estimating Processes
  • Surveying Processes


Course Entry requirements
  • All learners will need to complete an application and interview prior to enrolling.
  • You will normally need to have at least one of the following:
  • A BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related subject
  • An Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject
  • At least four GCSEs at Grades A-C
  • Appropriate work experience


Course Progression
Successful completion of National Award will enable students to progress to HNC programme in Construction.

Course Career Prospects
  • Student not already in employment could apply for technical jobs in the construction industry e.g. Building Management, Building Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, Architectural Technician, Buyer/Estimator etc.
