About this course

The baseline entrance requirement is a reasonable level of literacy, preferably holding a qualification at Level 2 Adult Literacy or equivalent e.g. GCSE A* - C, O Level Grade A ? C CSE Grade 1 in English. If a participant cannot produce a valid certificate at the start of the course he/she will be given support to achieve the City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Adult Literacy by the time he/she starts Unit 005.

Entry requirements
The baseline entrance requirement is a reasonable level of literacy, preferably holding a qualification at Level 2 Adult Literacy or equivalent e.g. GCSE A* - C, O Level Grade A ? If a participant cannot produce a valid certificate at the start of the course he/she will be given support to achieve the City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Adult Literacy by the time he/she starts Unit 005.

What will I study?
You will need to complete the following units: Unit 001. Literacy, Language, Numeracy and ICT Needs for Work, Education & Life Unit 002. Skills Check & Signposting Unit 005. Supporting Learners (this includes a placement in a Basic Skills setting) Unit 006. Developing an Understanding of Literacy

How will I be assessed?
Unit 001 and Unit 002 are externally set and internally marked. Units 005 and 006 are portfolio based with a series of set tasks and a Personal Development Journal to complete for each. The specialist Basic Skills tutor at the placement will also complete an assessment of the participant?s progress in their placement.

Career Opportunities & Progression
After successful completion, participants would be able to support adult learners with Basic Skills needs. In order to progress into delivering Basic Skills to small groups of adults, candidates should undertake City & Guilds 9375 (Level 3) Certificate in Delivering Basic Skills to Adults.
