What will I study?
You will study routine maintenance of computer hardware and software on standalone computer systems, providing technical support to users of computers and installing and configuring computer hardware and software. These topics are covered in detail in order for you to achieve the level 1 qualification. The course consists of two modules: Fundamentals of Computing Systems and Customer Care, and Dismantle, Assemble, Install and Maintain a Desktop Computer System. There are also four OCN modules in the course, which complement and support learning in computer maintenance. These modules are: Know your Computer; Introduction to IT Hardware; Introduction to Computer Software and Software and Peripheral Installation.
How will I be assessed?
Practical Assessments carried out in class under examination conditions. You will also build a portfolio of all your practical work across the year, which provides evidence of competence in practical skills and underpinning knowledge.
Career Opportunities & Progression
You will develop valuable practical skills through maintaining and upgrading real computer hardware and software. Successful completion of this course can lead to opportunities to progress to a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma for IT Practitioners, or a vocational BTEC course for IT Practitioners.
