Discovering Digital Photography
This short course is for those who wish to get the most out of their Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera (DSLR). The aim is to introduce participants to the key aspects of digital photography, from operating your camera, digital image capture, editing images to image processing in Adobe CS3. Day 1:
  • The fundamentals of operating a DSLR
    • Digital sensor format and lens focal length
    • Basics of Raw, Jpeg and Tiff files
    • Exposure (Iso, f
    • .stops and shutter speeds)
    • Depth of field
    • Using the histogram display
    • White balance
    • Downloading images to a computer
    Day 2:
    • Photography on location
    • Recapping Iso, f
    • .stops and shutter speeds
    • Exposure control
    • Using the histogram to fine tune exposure
    • Explanation of colour spaces
    • Raw file image processing
    • Lenses and composition
    Day 3:
    • Aperture and shutter priority exposure modes
    • Fine tuning exposure when using aperture and shutter priority modes
    • Working with Adobe Bridge
    • Raw processing continued
    Day 4:
    • Basics of image composition
    • Introduction to Adobe Photoshop
    • Tonal adjustments, colour adjustments and sharpening (basic techniques to improve image quality)
    • Printing some images
