Course aims:
This is the first step towards becoming a fully qualified electrician. During this year you will learn all about the different kinds of circuits commonly encountered by electricians and the different cables and containment systems.
By the end of the year you will be working at professional standard and have a basic understanding of inspection and testing, electrical science and health and safety. The course is split into half theory and half practical.
Course content:

- Principles of Electrotechnology (stage 1)
- Working Safely in an Engineering Environment

- Using and Communicating Technical Information
- Making components using hand Tools and Fitting Techniques
- Wiring Electrical Equipment and Circuits
- Assembling Electrical Wiring Support Systems
Facilities for students:
This course is based at the Main Campus for City College in the heart of Brighton.
The Electrical Section is in a purpose-built unit, with modern, well-equipped workshop facilities and classrooms with computers.
There is an excellent cafeteria service in the Tower Block and central Brighton with many cafes etc is on our doorstep. The NVQ portfolio can be built on-line or on hard copy.
Tutors:
The Electrical Department consists of a small, committed and experienced team of lecturers and assessors.
All our staff are qualified and experienced electricians. We have a mixture of full-time and part-time staff.
Assessment: There are two multiple choice exams for the CG2330-01 L2 units and continuous practical assessment and written question assessment for the PEO NVQ1

Progression and links:
The progression from this course is into Electrical Installation year 2 which will cover the remaining components of the 2330-01 Level 2 Technical Certificate and from this to year 3 2330-07 Level 3 Technical Certificate.
This course is the first step to becoming an electrician.

N/A but any student who is working in the electrical industry or who can organise their own work experience will benefit from it.

If you are under 19 on 31st August 2009 you do not have to pay Tuition Fees, the College Registration, Awarding Body Registration or Exam/Assessment Fees. However, you will have to pay any Resource Fees. Under 19s entering Higher Education will have to pay full costs.
