FdA Hospitality and Event Management

Course Summary
Hospitality and Event Management considers the management of people and services in the hospitality, residential, food service, events, leisure and tourism industries. This degree provides an opportunity for students to study the expanding and diverse hospitality sector. Guest lecturers, site visits and the opportunity to get involved in real projects in large and small organisations within the sector, help make the degree relevant to the industry.

The degree teaches students a set of core principles which are essential for any management related career.

Course Structure
This course includes core management modules that cover the professional requirements of the sector.

Core modules include:
Principles and Functions of Management, Food, Beverage and Accommodation Management, Micro Business Environment, and Human Resource Management.

Optional modules include:
Licensed Retail Management, Events Project Management, and Hospitality in Context.

Work Placements
Full-time students will be expected to arrange suitable work placements, and assistance is available for this. For part-time students who are employed in the hospitality or event management sector, a substantial part of the required coursework will be based on the students' specific work contexts.

Assessment
Assessment is through a combination of coursework, practical work, presentations and examinations.

After the Course
Career opportunities specific to the hospitality industry include conference, event or exhibition management in organisations such as English Heritage, local councils and private companies. Alternatively, students can progress directly to the final year of BA (Hons) Business Management, or continue to relate their study to specific aspects of the hospitality and event management sector on the final year of BA (Hons) Event Management at UCS.
