Foundation Modern Apprenticeships are available in a wide range of occupational areas, such as agriculture, engineering, welding and fabrication, motor vehicle, carpentry, plumbing, electrical installation, hairdressing, business administration, accounting, agricultural mechanics, catering and hospitality. The candidate for an FMA will normally, but not always, be a new starter in their chosen occupation. They can be employed and need to gain skills, knowledge and qualifications as part of the job requirements or unemployed and in a work based training placement where the Apprenticeship programme will help their development and future job prospects.

The award provides a good foundation to progress into advanced training in the chosen occupational area

Successful completion can result in employment in the chosen industry and progression onto a Modern Apprenticeship programme

Foundation Modern Apprentices will be supported through their training by an occupationally qualified and experienced Training Adviser
Career Prospects and Progression

The FMA award provides an excellent basis for progression onto further training and employment opportunities with the chosen occupational area. Many young people progress onto Modern Apprenticeships (Level 3) and MSD (Level 4) to further their qualifications.

Modules

All NVQ's have core units which are based around Health and Safety in the workplace, team work and efficient working practices. There are other core units that are vital to the chosen occupation as well as optional units, depending on the particular job role carried out by the candidate.

Method of Assessment

NVQ - Continuous practical and portfolio assessment Keyskills - portfolios. Technical certificates - various - assignment work, online testing or end of year exams.

Entry Requirements

Various depending on occupational route, but all FMA`s will be expected to achieve keyskills at Level 1 at least.
