The Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Graphic Design follows a similar format to the full-time HND course. The course aims to encourage development of the knowledge, understanding and methods required by todays graphic designers. Attendance at College is one day per week, making it ideal for those employed in the industry who wish to expand their theoretical and practical abilities. There is also the opportunity to top-up the HNC qualification to an HND by undertaking one further year of part-time study.

Course Content:
The course has been designed to give equal emphasis to both traditional and computer-based practice, with the aim of preparing you for a range of career opportunities in the design industry.

Attendance Requirements:
Part-time (one day per week).

Entry Requirements:
As with the HND, applicants should typically have completed either a BTEC National Diploma in a design-based subject, a Foundation Diploma course, an Access to HE programme, or a similar level 3 qualification such as A-level or AVCE in Art & Design. However, for the HNC greater emphasis will be placed on your portfolio of creative work, an ability to draw and an enthusiasm for the subject. Acceptance on the course will be subject to a successful interview with the course tutor.

Accreditation of Prior Learning / Experience:
Mature students are welcomed and should have relevant experience with a suitable portfolio of creative work, an ability to draw and enthusiasm.

Entry Process:
An interview with the course tutor will be arranged at the earliest opportunity after receiving your application.

Assessment:
Assessment is continuous over a range of tasks and assignments in each unit.

Progression Routes:
This course can be topped up to an HND by one further year of part-time study.
