Is this course right for me?

You must be in a management position, implementing and evaluating policies and procedures within the care establishment. This would include care home managers working with clients in residential, learning or physical disability homes and supported living housing.

What will I be learning?

Mandatory units include:

Promoting individuals equality and rights
Developing and evaluating systems to promote equality
Developing own knowledge and understanding
Relationships with cliets
Developing relationships between workers and agencies
Assessing individuals needs and circumstances
Evaluating risk of abuse and failure to protect
Planning and agreeing service responses

n addition you will complete six optional units from a range that relate specifically to your management role

How will I learn?

This is a work based NVQ where learners not only attend workshops at South Devon College but are assessed in the workplace performing real work activities. In addition to observation, there is a range of other methods of assessment such as expert witness observation, professional discussion, accounts and case studies. Assessors will negotiate the most appropriate methods to ensure all requirements are met.

What else might I want to know?

Course fees advertised are for one year only. If you require an assessment visit over a 15 mile radius from South Devon College, a further fee will be payable.

What can I do afterwards?

On successful completion of this course you may want to considering continuing onto Higher Education and applying for the FdSc Healthcare Practice. Alternatively you could consider undertaking the A1 Assessors course to help develop the workforce in your area of employment.
