COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course is designed to give a grounding in the technician engineering field of BSE. The typical student will be either wishing to enter, or already hold a post in design, specification purchase, installation, or maintenance of building services equipment.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
  • The BTEC Higher National Certificate is a course intended for students wishing to enhance their qualifications after completing a craft certificate or BTEC National Certificate or National Diploma in an appropriate discipline.
  • Mature students wishing to return to study without any formal qualifications are also welcomed, but with industrial experience or at least one A level with supporting passes at GCSE grades A, B or C.


HOW IS THE COURSE ORGANISED?
The HNC is offered on a part-time day basis extending over two academic years.

The HND is offered on successful completion of the Certificate for 1 year, part-time during the day. The acquisition of the Diploma will then allow access to a BSc (Hons) degree in engineering, also provided on a part-time basis.

Alternatively the HND may be obtained by full-time study over 2 years.

The course provides study in mechanical, electrical and managerial subjects. A selection of subjects that may be studied are:

  • Process Measurement
  • Tendering and Estimating

ASSESSMENT
This will be by a combination of methods including coursework, projects and examinations.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
It is possible to progress on to a course in a similar subject area or the BSc (Hons) degree in Integrated Technology or gain employment in the Building Services sector.
