Is the course for me?
This course provides practical skills and knowledge in a fine dine restaurant for anyone interested in working as a supervisor or manager in the Catering and Hospitality sector. It is hands-on and gives you a real taste of supervisory skills which could be used in a bar, restaurant, hotel, cruise ship or other catering outlet. You will be part of the Restaurant team that services the Collegiate's impressive commercial restaurant Buckleys.

What will I learn?
Training will be a mix of theory and practical lessons with grestest emphasis on developing practical supervisory skills, both in the restaurant, bar and back of house areas such as the cellar and certain kitchen facilities. You will learn supervisory skills in a professional environment by actively supervising Level 1 or Level 2 catering students supported by a team of experienced tutors. From checking health, hygiene and safety standards to supervising the restaurant and bar during lunch or evening functions and theme events, you will develop planning, discussion, team building and leadership skills that are essential at this level of study. Other topics studied include improving working relationships with customers, managers and staff, time management and planning and supervising functions.

How will I be assessed?
Tutors will regularly review your progress and let you know how you are doing throughout the course. You will be observed by tuotrs demonstrating your supervisory skills and then create a portfolio of your work to document your competence and skills. You will also take end of unit tests so you know where your strengths are and where you need to improve.

What can I do after the course?
Qualified supervisors are in demand in the hospitality & catering industry, in the North West, and elsewhere in the UK. There are many opportunities in the hospitality and catering industry for example in hotels, restaurants, bars or other catering outlets, even on cruise ships! If you decide to further your studies to a level 4 programme there are opportunities in Higher Education, for example HND or HNC programmes in Catering Management.

Entry Requirement
