Course outline

This course introduces you to the exciting and expanding Leisure and Tourism industry.

The OCR Level 1 National Certificate includes 12 units, 6 mandatory units and 6 optional units. You will study how to work in teams, how communication is important in Leisure and Tourism, Travel Sales, UK Visitor Attractions and how to design your own website.

You would study this because you are interested in and want to learn more about how the Leisure and Tourism industry works, and because you want to work in the large and expanding Leisure and Tourism industry.

Most importantly this course allows you to enjoy coursework assessment as opposed to exam based assessment.

Successful completion of the programme will allow you to progress onto the BTEC courses in Travel and Tourism or Sport.

How you will learn

Through a variety of learning methods such as:

researching for assignments and projects; reading case studies; carrying out role plays; exam focussed teaching and revision sessions; participating in work experience.

How you will be assessed

Well-qualified, highly experienced and enthusiastic Leisure and Tourism tutors will teach you. You will learn through a wide range of learning activities including class discussions, case studies, visits and individual research.

The 12 units that you study are entirely coursework based and you will be assessed in a variety of ways. This will include written work and practical assessments.

Other complementary subjects

You will have the opportunity, and be advised, to complete Literacy and Numeracy at Level 1.

You can also study alongside the Football Excellence course. There is an opportunity for you to retake GCSE Mathematics and English if needed.

What you can do after this course

It will enable you to progress to a Level 2 subject. You can also move on to a Modern Apprenticeship or employment in the Leisure and Tourism industry.
