Who The Course is for
This Level 2 course provides an introduction to the Nail industry, gaining essential knowledge and expertise in a wide range of nail services. The course is ideal for school leavers who want a career in Nail Treatments. It is also suitable for adults who would like to change career direction or return to work after a break.
Successful students tend to:

- be diplomatic and tactful in order to cope with nervous performers
- enjoy working with a variety of people.
Course Content
Students will study the following units:
Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
Promote additional products or services to clients
Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
Provide a Manicure treatment
Provide a Pedicure treatment
Extend and maintain nails
Provide a Nail Art service
Plus one optional unit
All students must purchase relevant kit from the hairdressing, beauty therapy and holistic department. Costs will be discussed at enrolment and during the college induction. Students will be required to carry out treatments on the general public who book in as clients at our reception area. On occasion you will also need to provide a paying model for your practical assessments.
All students must wear the college uniform, which is:
- Long smart black trousers (Purchased by student)
- College tunic (Purchased from the department)
- Low heeled full black smart shoes (Purchased by student)
- Students will be required to remove all visible jewellery including facial piercing during all practical sessions (due to awarding body requirements) and have short nails with no nail polish.
Mobile phones must not be accessed in classrooms and salons unless permission has been sought from the course coordinator.
If the above is not adhered to you will be asked to leave the salons.
Entry RequirementsLearning & Assessment Methods
Assessment is by practical observation, oral questioning, case studies, written essential knowledge papers set at week 10 and 20. End examinations set by the examination awarding body will take place on week 30. An internal/external verifier will assess all portfolio evidence and practical skills.
Qualifications Gained
Successful students will gain a VTCT Level 2 NVQ in Nail Services.
Progression Opportunities
On successful completion of the NVQ Level 2 students could progress to the NVQ Level 3 in Nail Services to add more advanced techniques and range of services or to employment into the industry.
Career Opportunities
This course could lead to a career as a nail technician who can be found working in salons, spas, health farms and cruise liners.
