It is a requirement [from September 07] for anyone in the profession who does not yet have a recognised teacher/ trainer qualification. It is for those who want to work or work as teachers in this sector [i.e. in further, adult and community education, work-based learning and the voluntary sector]; for technicians and support staff in further and adult education and for training personnel [i.e. in commerce and industry].

Progression
For Associate Teachers*: the City and Guilds 7304 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector
For full Teacher role: the City and Guilds 7305 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector
* Associate teacher is a teacher role with fewer responsibilities i.e. you predominantly teach in at least one of the following ways: from packs/ pre-prepared materials, on a one to one basis, to a particular level/type of learner [not across a range] and deliver short courses. It also includes those whose main role isn't teaching, but who delivers learning on a fairly regular basis i.e. through termly contracts.
