Course aims:

It will equip you with the academic skills and specialist knowledge needed to succeed in Higher Education and also help develop your in Maths and I.T. ability and increase your self-confidence.
Psychology is a very popular subject and there are many options for further study at University which will lead to a career in a variety of subjects.

- Childhood Development
- Cognitive and Social Psychology
- Psychopathology and Research Methods and Statistics.
- Communication and Presentations skills
- Independent Project
- Developing skills for Studying and Learning
- Review and Planning
- Learning Styles and Reading Academic Literature.
Facilities for students:
A well equipped library at the Pelham site and lending rights at Sussex University and the University of Brighton.
The Access course maintains excellent links with local universities and there are many opportunities to attend Open Days throughout the year. We also have visiting staff from the universities offering advice on admissions, UCAS applications, finance, career choice etc.
We also have our own excellent student services department, counselling service and student union.
Tutors:
The tutors are well qualified, experienced and enthusiastic and understand the needs of Access learners and provide appropriate support and guidance.
There is also support on applying to university from other organisations working together with City College such as Information Days at local universities.
Assessment: Ongoing assessment e.g. Research project, written assessments, multiple choice tests, exams, presentations, class debate.

Any introductory A-Level Psychology text.
e.g. Cardwell, Clark and Meldrum. Psychology for A Level.
Progression and links:
The course will enable you to apply for a degree or Foundation degree. Please note University entrance requirements may require additional qualifications in English, Maths and Science.
Counselling, Mental Health, Research, Education, Social Services, Human Resources, Police (e.g. Forensics) in fact any career that requires good people skills and/or research and statistics skills.

Home/EU students tuition fees (per year) : 600.00
If you are under 19 on 31st August 2009 you do not have to pay Tuition Fees, the College Registration, Awarding Body Registration or Exam/Assessment Fees. However, you will have to pay any Resource Fees. Under 19s entering Higher Education will have to pay full costs.
