The course is based at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, which has excellent practical facilities and offers students the opportunity to work alongside experienced horticulturalists and botanists
Students have access to the Library at the National Botanic Garden, which has a large stock of horticultural learning materials.
Students have free internet access for research at Coleg Sir Gar, Pibwrlwyd Campus.
Career Prospects and Progression
Successful candidates have obtained employment in botanic gardens, garden centres, nurseries and have set up their own gardening and landscaping businesses or design consultancies. Progression to RHS Level 3 qualifications or to HND Horticultural courses is also an option.

Units: Horticulture I - planning, principles and production: The Plant Kingdom; Plant Propagation; Outdoor Food Production; Garden Planning. Horticulture II - ornamental, principles and maintenance: The Root Environment and Plant Nutrition; Protected Cultivation; Horticultural Plant Selection, Establishment and Maintenance; Horticultural Plant Health Problems.
Method of Assessment
External examinations set and marked by the RHS. Horticulture I - planning, principles and production. Horticulture II - ornamental, principles and maintenance.
