The qualification is designed to enable candidates to:

adopt an integrated approach to the theory and practice of teaching

reflect on their own previous

/current levels of experience, practice and skills, and areas for development

identify principles of learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation

develop communication and interpersonal skills

develop an awareness of their professional role and responsibilities

.

Course Content:
The qualification is made up of 2 mandatory modules:

Approaches to mathematics learning and teaching

Theories and frameworks for mathematics teaching and learning

It requires candidates to submit evidence of 75 hours teaching across a minimum of 2 levels and be observed 4 times in addition to producing a portfolio of evidence for the 2 modules.

Awarding body:
City & Guilds.

Entry Requirements:

• Candidates must have personal mathematics skills at Level 3 or above and be qualified or working towards full teaching qualification in the lifelong learning sector
.
• Candidates must also have access to at least 75 hours of numeracy teaching covering at least 2 levels

Entry Process:
Entrance onto the course will be subject to an interview and initial assessment.

Assessment:
Students will be assessed by:

• A portfolio of assignment evidence
• Evidence from 4 observed sessions
