Summary:

This Work-Based Learners course is designed for supervisory operatives who have normally already completed NVQ Level 2 and who are currently employed within the machine woodworking area.

Entry Requirements:

You should already have completed the NVQ level 2 in Machine Woodworking and you should also be currently employed within the machine woodworking industry as it will be necessary for you to produce evidence from your workplace across a range of machine woodworking tasks.

Academic Progression:
You may continue your studies by undertaking any of the courses from the Short Course programme.

Or you may progress, taking the first steps into the professional and managerial levels of the construction industry, by undertaking the Edexcel National Certificate in Building Studies qualification.

The qualification covers practical aspects of machine woodworking as well as considering the planning, organisation, monitoring, control and evaluation of on-site operational activities.

Mandatory Core Units

  • Resolve wood machining problems
  • Produce planed wood and wood-based products
  • Produce profiled wood and wood-based products
  • Produce wood and wood-based products using Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) and Numerically Controlled (NC) machinery
  • Produce curved wood and wood-based products
