Course Aims:
The aim of the course is to develop basic skills and understanding of the construction of flat patterns and acquire a theoretical and practical knowledge of lay planning and an appreciation of fabric economy. They will consolidate the knowledge acquired for establishing a base for further progress and understand the importance of safety in a workroom.
Course Content:
With support and guidance from your tutor, you will familiarize yourself with craft materials, resources, tools and equipment
Once students have assessed and measured a standard figure the principles of pattern construction in relation to the 3-dimensional figure will be explored. Students will have the opportunity to adapt blocks to create simple style skirts, bodices, collars and sleeves.

There are also a variety of Art & Design part time course across the Faculty.

Assessment is informal and ongoing. Students will produce a portfolio of work showing completion / evidence of three mandatory units which are assessed by the tutor and verified by an external ABC moderator. Each student will be expected to keep a folder for handout sheets, research and student planning and preparation for their project work.
