PC Passport - Intermediate 1

Aimed at: This course will develop your basic skills to Intermediate 1 level, providing a recognised certificate for people without qualifications in IT use.

Additional Information: This course comprises three SQA units in the Internet, Word Processing and Spreadsheets.

Duration: Three 40 hour SQA units

Location: Bridge, Easterhouse, the Colleges East End campus library and learning centre and community-based Widening Access sessions

Units Include:
  • Introduction to the Internet and On-line Communications
      This Unit is designed to enable candidates to develop basic skills in Internet and on-line communications. This Unit covers conventional connection methods used to access, retrieve and exchange information from the Internet or an intranet. Candidates will use basic facilities to send and receive messages over a network. Candidates will also acquire skills relating to computer hardware and software.
  • Introduction to IT Software and Presenting Information
      This Unit has been designed to provide practical experience in the use of the basic features of four types of application software word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and imaging. .
  • Introduction to IT Systems
      This Unit is designed to enable users to set-up and use the features of modern computer systems in day to day use. The candidate will be introduced to computers, the components that make up modern computer hardware and the features of Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). They will be introduced to health and safety issues related to using a computer system and methods to protect personal data..
Progression:
  • This course leads naturally to the European Computer Driving Licence qualification or to PC Passport - Intermediate 2
