The aim of this course is to build upon the interest learners may already have in the field of construction/civil engineering, to develop their skills, deepen their understanding, and prepare them either to progress to Higher Education in the field, or to enter the industry directly. The practical nature of the course is designed to develop learner's expertise of the area of construction/civil engineering through some hands on experience, case studies, and projects. Learners will develop skills, knowledge and understanding using the latest software/technologies.

Course programme

As a practically focused, vocational course, assessment will be primarily carried out by the use of projects and coursework assignments throughout the duration of the course. These will offer opportunities to achieve Pass, Merit and Distinction grades under the guidance of expert lecturers.

The aim of this course is to build upon the interest learners may already have in the field of construction/civil engineering, to develop their skills, deepen their understanding, and prepare them either to progress to Higher Education in the field, or to enter the industry directly. The practical nature of the course is designed to develop learner's expertise of the area of construction/civil engineering through some hands on experience, case studies, and projects. Learners will develop skills, knowledge and understanding using the latest software/technologies.


Upon successful completion learners may progress to a range of Higher Education courses such as a Foundation Degree or Honours Degree in, for example, Sustainable Construction, Construction Management, Civil Engineering and many other related programmes. It is also possible to progress directly into employment, or in some cases to self employment, using the skills learned. For example, the National Engineering Foundation "Innovative Student of the Year" 2012 started his own business after completing this course.
