About this course

Must be 18 years or over, and possess either: BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or a related Level 3 subject area, or two A Level passes or equivalent, and with three appropriate GCSEs, including English Grade A-C or Level 2 equivalent. Refer to general entry requirements. Access NI Enhanced Disclosure clearance is required.

Course programme

Learners are assessed via a range of methods including essays, reports, oral presentations, case studies and video evidence. Assignments are written to reflect typical practice in the sector and opportunities exist in all modules to achieve pass, merit and distinction grades.

The aim of this course is to give Learners an understanding of health and social care activities and the range of careers within these sectors. The programme aims to provide theory to equip Learners to work effectively in a range of health and social care settings. Management reserve the right to enhance the criteria according to the demand for the programme.


Upon successful completion, Learners may progress to degree programmes in other institutions such as nursing, social work, teaching, health and well-being, psychology. Alternatively, Learners may choose to take up employment within the sector. This programme may be replaced in September 2016 with an Ulster University accredited Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care, subject to approval.
