Course programme

We will look at the impact of the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660, the Great Plague of 1665 and Great Fire of 1666 on London and its inhabitants.

The day will consist of a mixture of PowerPoint presentation and group analysis of original sources. Class discussion will be actively encouraged. You are encouraged to bring along/describe items you have read in newspapers/heard on radio/seen on TV you think may be of interest to the group. If you wish to purchase a book before the course I would recommend Stephen Porter, Pepys’s London: Everyday Life in London 1650-1703 (Stroud: Amberley, 2012.
