You will be expected to provide normal learning materials such as stationery. We organise trips that you are required to pay for if you want to attend.
The Programme
This is a practical course in dance which is equivalent to one A Level. It will develop students' contemporary dance technique and choreography and their performance skills. Assessment is continuous across the two years and requires the successful completion of six units. It can be taken as part of an A Level programme.
The Programme Content
The course is split into six units or modules. The modules all relate to Performing Arts and Dance, but some are aspects you may not have thought of. You may study Rehearsal & Performance, Movement, Physical Theatre, Contemporary Dance, Choreography, and do research relating to performance styles. The main aim of the programme is to cover theatre productions which have a dance flavour. Students rehearse and perform in, sometimes crew, and organise these productions. Usually, the dance productions showcase work by all of the College dancers.
Progression / Careers
In the past, students from dance courses at North Devon College have progressed to higher education at establishments such as The Laban Centre and a range of high profile universities. Now that we have Foundation Degrees at North Devon College (which are proposed to include dance shortly) you may be able to continue performing to a higher level, without the stress and financial hassle of leaving home.
