About this course
You will need a genuine interest in working in the music industry
and have a good level of ability as a musician or vocalist. You will
need at least five GCSEs at grade C or above including English (or a
First Diploma at merit level). Entry is subject to a successful workshop,
audition and interview.

What will I be learning?
You will: develop your performance, develop your song writing and rehearsal skills to a high level, learn how to plan and produce a live music performance, learn how to perform and evaluate a variety of popular music styles, explore the roles and responsibilities associated with the music industry and learn how to record your work in a studio.
How will I learn?
The course runs on three days per week at the Music Mill and is a mix of hands-on practical work and academic study. You will take part in lectures, demonstrations, workshops and live events. You will be set projects that relate to industry specific situations and develop your skills in professional settings. You will be given assignments that are designed to achieve clear outcomes, such as how to create and market a musical product or performance, or how to develop as a musical performer. These assignments will be graded at pass, merit or distinction level.
What else might I want to know?
This course is run in Newton Abbot. You are required to provide your own musical instrument but drum kits and amps are available in the rehearsal rooms. You will need to a purchase a media storage device for digital work and a pair of headphones. There will be opportunities to go on music related trips and activities.
What can I do afterwards?
You can progress onto a music or performance related Foundation
Degree at South Devon College or pursue a career in the music
business or creative industries.
