Cost
We try to provide the necessary equipment but there may, occasionally, be extra costs for costumes and other equipment for rehearsal and performance.
The Programme
In a normal week you will attend both practical sessions, lectures and seminars. You may also be expected to do rehearsal work for performances outside college hours. It is important that if you have a part time job that it is flexible and can fit around this. You will do written and research assignments. These vary from week to week depending on shows and deadlines. You will be involved in at least one full scale musical theatre production as well as other smaller performance assessments.
The Programme Content
The course is split into six units or modules. The modules all relate to Performing Arts and specifically musical theatre. You may study Rehearsal & Performance, Singing, Dance performance, Voice and the possibility of Variety performance. The main aim of the programme is to cover theatre productions which have a musical flavour. Students rehearse and perform in, organise and sometimes crew these productions. They paint and construct sets and props, and in some cases light and provide sound and music for the shows, advised and supported by staff. It is vital to note that all students will be expected to learn the basics of singing, dancing, acting and general music theatre performance.
Progression / Careers
The course prepares you for both performance in and creation of productions and is good preparation for continuing onto a higher education in musical theatre both academic and vocational courses.
In the past, students have progressed to higher education at establishments such as E15, Laine Theatre Arts, Brid College and other leading vocational theatre schools.
