Candidates MUST hold a level 2 equivalent qualification, e.g. Fitness Instructor Certificate or Gym Instructor. All applicants will be interviewed to ascertain qualifications and aspirations.

Introduction:
This qualification aims to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence of the fitness instructor and your ability to progress to a higher level of study. Course delivery is designed to provide candidates with the skills and knowledge to plan, deliver, manage and evaluate, safe, effective and progressive exercise and fitness programmes personalised to individual clients. This leads to a Central YMCA Qualification Personal Trainer Award.

Study Mode & Location:
This one year part-time course lasts for 9 hours per week (Monday 9am-6pm) and will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
The course includes a mixture of theoretical and practical applications related to the unit titles which are as follows:

  • Advanced Exercise and Fitness Knowledge
  • Advanced Resistance Programmes
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Programmes
  • Client Lifestyle and Fitness Assessment
  • Nutrition and Weight Management
  • Training in Different Environments
  • Business marketing skills for fitness professionals


Assessment:
Candidates are assessed through various methods which include:

  • a mixture of formal and written theory examinations, case studies, portfolio evidence and viva are used across all units
  • a practical assessment of observed performance will also be carried out for specific units.


Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Personal Trainer within the Fitness Industry, progression onto GP Referral Sports Therapy and Fitness Diploma.

Additional Costs:
Candidates will be required to purchase a Sweatshirt and a t-shirt (Approx cost £30). They will also need to purchase course manuals at a cost of £60.

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
