  • Module: 7NH058
  • Credits: 20
  • Period: 1
  • Type: Core
  • Locations:
  • Walsall Campus
This module introduces the theory underpinning care of the critically ill adult patient. The module will establish the historical and current context of Critical Care services within the United Kingdom and identify key priorities and over-arching themes of care within the specialty. The module then considers a number of different areas of critical care considering the relevant: anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, treatment / support interventions and nursing care. The module requires students to consider and critically analyse the evidence base for care provided, discussion of which is included in the module. Students are also then required to synthesis the evidence base around intervention efficacy with the wider service implementation issues.

Theory of Adult Critical Care Nursing 2
  • Module: 7NH059

Following on from Theory of Adult Critical Care Nursing 1, this module develops and extends discussion of the theory underpinning care of the critically ill adult patient. The module will consider a number of different topics including those addressing advanced support for patients requiring level 3 critical care. For each topic the relevant anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, and psychosocial aspects of treatment and nursing care will be considered. The module requires students to reflect on and critically evaluate care provided, identifying the implications of this from a leadership perspective. Students will discuss and articulate the rationale for core areas of critical care nursing practice and for a proposed development in practice. .
