Dental Public Health focuses on preventing oral diseases and improving the oral health of populations. Addressing the major oral health issues and the global challenges facing dental care systems in the current political economy requires strategic planning, evidence-informed decision-making and strong public health leadership.
The new online Dental Public Health, Policy and Leadership Postgraduate Certificate aims to give students a clear understanding of the principles and practice of Dental Public Health using interactive and innovative teaching methods that cover the following foundational topics:

Structure
Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Public Health, Policy and Leadership
Students taking the postgraduate certificate will complete four core modules run sequentially from October to July. Each module will include nine weeks of weekly teaching sessions including assessment.
Students must pass four modules to be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits).
Core modules (15 credit modules)
- Dental Public Health and Policy
- Assessing Oral Health and Diseases in Populations
- Evidence-Based Dentistry
- Prevention and Oral Health Promotion
Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Public Health, Policy and Leadership
Students must complete eight modules to be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits).

- Evidence-Based Dentistry

- Primary Dental Care
- Health Systems Policy and Performance (from the MSc in Global Public Health online programme)

*Students will also complete an E-Portfolio to record their leadership development as part of the Leadership and Planning in Health and Public Service modules
Postgraduate MSc in Dental Public Health, Policy and Leadership
Students must pass 180 credits to be awarded a Postgraduate Master's degree

Students will complete a 60 credit research dissertation which is a written report of project (20,000 words maximum).This dissertation will be a written report (20,000 words maximum) of a research project from three options:
- A qualitative or quantitative research project using data collected in own country
- A systematic review or scoping review
- An oral health needs assessment or public health report
MSc students can also attend an optional two-week summer placement in the Institute of Dentistry, QMUL as part of the Leadership and Planning in Health and Public Services module (non-credit bearing).
