The PhD in Education by distance learning is designed to enhance specialised knowledge through academic study and research.

The PhD in Education by distance learning is ideal for students with commitments which prevent them from being resident within reasonable travelling distance of York. Registration is possible on a full or part time basis. A minimum of two weeks of attendance on campus per academic year is required (this may occur as one two- week or two one-week visits). This requirement applies for both full and part time students.

Campus visits will coincide with registration and induction, training activities, and annual progression meetings. For the remainder of the academic year, this programme allows students to research overseas while still receiving support and training online and by video-conferencing. The final viva voce examination will also take place in York, on a face to face basis.
