What are the entry requirements?
You need to show a portfolio of photography from a previous course and an AS level certificate to be accepted on the A2 level. The photography that you present at interview could be from a previous course, from your own portfolio, from your work or from your practice as an artist.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
  • Minimum Literacy Level: Level 2

  • Reading: You can read and summarise information by selecting and using different types of documents to obtain relevant information; skim and scan documents to gain a general idea of content and identify the information you need; recognise the writer's intentions and identify the main points, ideas and lines of reasoning; summarise information to suit your purpose. Writing: You can present relevant information in a format that suits your purpose; structure your writing to help readers follow and understand your main points; spell, punctuate and use grammar accurately; construct complex sentences and make your meaning clear.

What qualification will I receive?
You will receive an Advanced GCE in Art and Design qualification upon completing the course. In addition you will have had opportunity to build and add work to your portfolio.

Where can it lead?
You may want to use this qualification to increase your employment or exhibition opportunities. You could also apply for a higher level photography course.

What will I study?
You will be learning through your own experience along with expert advice and guidance from the tutor. You will be using traditional BW SLR techniques along with digital photography. You will be required to develop your own projects and develop experimental and conventional skills. You will be expected to analyse the work of other photographers and to develop a contextual research project according to your interests.

How will I be taught?
You will be given technical demonstrations, seminars, discussion opportunities, lectures and presentations. You will learn through your own research and practical experiments in the use of different technologies and processes.

How will I be assessed?
You will complete three units and be internally and externally marked at the end of the course. This includes a 12 hour timed practical examination in June. Most of the assignments are presented in work journals and portfolios, though you will mount final pieces for a final exhibition.
