2. Course description Summary: This course takes a comprehensive and creative journey through digital, traditional and theoretical photography. Course description: You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You do not need to be an accomplished photographer but they should have a real interest in the theoretical aspects of photography and be willing to see the world differently. The course is made up of a number of units, which could include: Core and specialist units include: Unit 1: Introduction to Visual Language in Art & Design Unit 2: Introduction to Research Skills in Art & Design Unit 3: Introduction to Critical and Contextual Awareness in Art & Design Unit 4: Introduction to Material, Processes and Technical Skills Unit 5: An Integrated Approach To 2D Problem solving in Art & Design - Location photography Unit 6: An Integrated Approach To 3D Problem solving in Art & Design - Studio techniques Unit 7: An Integrated Approach To Time Based Problem solving in Art & Design - Darkroom techniques Unit 8: Developing and Art & Design Project Unit 9: Opportunities for Progression In addition to learning about the employment area chosen, you will develop the skills needed to start a career. The course is equivalent to three A Levels which means that upon successful completion of the course, students can either choose to progress to a higher education course in the visual arts, or go straight into employment. In addition to your main programme, you will study English and Maths. Depending on your grades on entry, you will study either Functional Skills or GCSEs English and Maths. Entry requirements Entry requirements: Applicants should have: - At least four GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A*-C (including English Language); alternatively, a relevant Level 2 Diploma at Merit plus English Language at grade C. - Preferably one of the following GCSEs - Art, Design, Graphics or Photography. - A strong interest in Creative Arts and Photography - A good attendance record Applicants will also be invited to attend an interview with tutors: - Tutors will supply a visual brief which applicants will need to respond to in preparation for the interview - Applicants must bring a portfolio of their work to interview. - A reference 4.
