You will be introduced to Photoshop and gain an overview of its different functions. You will use Photoshop to create a digital collage illustration from digital files of scanned artwork and photographs. You will learn how to scan a drawing or painting and clean it up or correct it using Photoshop. You will learn about different image modes and how to save files in different formats.

About this course

- Navigate Adobe Photoshop and have an overview of its main functions
- Save files in various formats
- Scan and clean up a drawing or painting using the tools in Photoshop
- Create selections in Photoshop
- Use layers in Photoshop to create a multi layered collage illustration.

Our latest professional equipment and software are available for your use throughout the course. It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to.) CDs/DVDs are available.

Course programme

- Navigation of Adobe Photoshop and an introduction to its main functions.
- An overview of different formats for saving files and different colour modes.
- Scanning and cleaning up a drawing, painting or photograph.
- Using Layers to create multi layered images
- Using Photoshop to create a colour illustration created from scanned line drawings or paintings.

You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, tutorials, group and individual assistance and hand-outs. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Animation, Cartooning, Digital arts, Film, Graphics, Illustration, Photography and Web design. You will need to bring in drawings or paintings to work with as well as photographs in digital formats to work with.
